Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
7th to 10th maybe ... better end of that if Broja, Scammy from Sassoulo, Lingard, ANY LEFT BACK & Onana turn up.

Liverpool & Man City are moving further away, Chelsea Arsenal & Spurs will improve adding Sterling , Jesus & Bissouma etc.

Of the others mentioned :
Newcastle - will move up from bottom 6 into our range. Doing the right thing adding slowly. Pope is a great buy but they dont have a striker yet (do they?)
Brighton - lost Bissouma and dont know who they have added to improve. Especially the much needed striker
Leicester - added anyone ? Seem to be on the verge of losing Tielemans
Wolves - have retained Neves for now but have just shipped that kid Silva they paid £35m odd for out on loan
Man U - have put their eggs in the DeJong basket who wont move until someone gives hiim the £14m he is owed by the scam artists who seem to be buying lots of players (Raphina & Lewandowski for £100m) when they are 2 billion in debt.
Dont think they will be any better

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
We will have a poor start to the league campaign , as a result it will become the desperate priority before the world cup so weak teams in Europe and the league cup, resulting in early exits from both.

Final position: 12th

looks like mid table will be about the best we can hope for but i would really like a proper go at winning the European trophy , win this and Europa cup football the following season , small steps but steps in the right direction .

With last season's squad, 12th

With serious investment, 7th

We are MASSIVE.

6th, pushing 5th dependant upon who we buy in this window.

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
As we haven't made an obvious improvement to the first XI then I can't see us doing better than lower mid-table - around 11th or 12th.
Sadly I'm rather pessimistic about the coming season.
I think the epithet dithering Dave is well chosen as he's made a right nause up of the last couple of transfer windows.
Unless he pulls a couple of impressive rabbits out of the hat within a couple of weeks then he could be under huge pressure pre-xmas.

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
IF we had brought in a couple of decent additions last year inc. a striker I think we very realistically could have got a CL place through the EL at the least... we certainly would have been in the EL again.

Had that happened we would have continued to have pushed on and attracted better players.

Hope I'm wrong but the gap is just going to get bigger between us and top six regardless of whether we manage to finish 7th again.

As it stands we will do well to finish 8-10th but with a couple of decent additions we could stand still and finish 7th again.

Winning EC is our best chance of getting EL next season and I would go all out for that, why not!?

Bottom Half

Moyes has got to squad to over perform since COVID lockdown. We have smaller wage budget than most and have really puched above our weight

We ran out of puff last season and with the substitution rule changes requiring game changing or saving squad members were a bit fucked

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
If we don’t bring in 2 excellent strikers and a left back, then I’d imagine around 10th or 11th with all the clubs in and around us actually bothering to strengthen as they actually have ambitious owners.

My aspiration for next season is to get my body fat % down to 12%. Not sure it’s realistic though.

To sign a striker. Or is that a hope too far?

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
i think we'll start bad and go into a bit of a tailspin, moyes will possibly be a casualty come the extended break for the world cup (especially is pochettino is sniffing around) but whether he is replaced or not we'll have a bit of a rally after and end up midtable.

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
As it stands, around 14th with Moyes gone during the World Cup Break. If that means he's replaced by Pochettino would take that all day long...more likely he'd be replaced by Benitez or some other GSB style out of work has been...they have previous afterall.

Rice to end up leaving for about 85m, Bowen for 60m, and a return to the lower midtable doldrums...our seemingly natural habitat.

Of course if the transfer window turns around, anything is possible....

12th in the league, but League Cup and Conference League winners.

It's the most nailed-on dead cert bet of all time. Lump on!

Re: Realistic Aspirations For Next Season
Top 10 finish at this rate would be a good season and show we have consolidated becoming a top 10 team.

I would not mind this if we give the cups a good run I.e. semi finals of one of the three as a minimum.

This however would not be enough to convince Rice to stay another season. Howeve, I can't him staying unless we win a cup and finish top 4 which will be a miracle given how well the top 5 (not including Man United) have recruited.
